Heroin overdose is one of the main causes of death for young adults.

People in prison who have a history of injecting heroin stand a much greater chance of dying from a heroin overdose soon after they leave prison – for every 200 released prisoners with a history of heroin use by injection, one dies within four weeks because of an overdose.

MRC CTU is undertaking one pilot trial in this area – the N-ALIVE pilot trial.   This is an important study because it involves research in a field where randomised controlled trials take place very rarely.
